        CLAUDE CLARK (1915 - 2001)

        Oil on board, 1946. 430x330 mm; 16x12 inches. Signed, titled and dated "Summer 1946" in pencil, verso.

        Provenance: estate of the artist, Oakland, CA.

        In the 1940s, before his teaching position at Talladega College, Clark traveled to the Caribbean and painted vividly colored works based on local subjects. Others from this period include Sponge Fisherman in the Camille O. and William H. Cosby, Jr. collection and Slave Lynching in the David C. Driskell Collection, University of Maryland.
