EDWARD PENFIELD (1866-1925) WESTERN LAWN TENNIS TOURNAMENT. 1896.
        28x19 1/4 inches, 71x49 cm.
Condition B- / C+: extensive expert overpainting in margins and image; repaired tears in image.
Depicting fashion, architecture, perspective and sport, this is one of Penfield's most impressive posters. It is likely the first American tennis poster, and could conceivably be among the earliest of all tennis posters. Sportissimo p. 73, L'Affiche Tennis (11).
