        (NEW YORK CITY.) Group of blueprints from the construction of the Holland Tunnel. 20 blueprints, most about 22 x 45 inches; binder holes punched in left margins, a few with manuscript corrections or notes, each marked in red or yellow pencil "Void" or "Superseded," generally only minor wear with one blueprint notably browned and worn; signed in the print by C.M. Holland as chief engineer and Ole Singstad as Engineer of Designs, some with 1924 inked docketing stamps on verso and manuscript signatures. New York, 1923-24

        The Holland Tunnel connecting lower Manhattan with Jersey City was begun in 1920, and opened to automobile traffic in 1927. The tunnel's original engineer Clifford Milburn Holland died in 1924. It was completed under the supervision of Ole Singstad, who designed the innovative ventilation system. These blueprints include splicing chambers, floor and roof plans, column and girder schedules, longitudinal sections for a ventilation building, electrical conduit plans, and interior details.
