Large color-tinted lithographed panorama of the Chesapeake Bay and beyond. 22 1/2x32 3/4 inches sheet size, wide margins; professionally conserved and lined on tissue, light discolorations, several marginal tears including one through the title just into image, few small edge losses.         An impressive elevated perspective map/view of the theater of the U.S. Civil War in Virginia and Maryland. The panorama, one of a series of six that were produced by Bachmann during the war, offered the public, especially mothers and wives of soldiers, a visual comprehension of the scope of the raging conflict the country was involved in. The view is centered on Richmond in the year before it fell.
