Large engraved map of New Jersey. 31 1/2x23 1/4 inches sheet size, nice margins; original outline hand-color in part; two small marginal stains at right, centerfold flattened and strengthened on verso, upper margin skillfully reinstated. London, 1777

        Estimate $10,000 - 15,000

Perhaps the most important general map of New Jersey published during the Revolutionary War period. Faden prepared the detailed engraving relying on the manuscripts of British military surveyor Bernard Ratzer and previous surveys by Gerard Bancker. No previous map had depicted knowledge of the region in such a definitive manner or on as large of a scale. Stevens & Tree 37(a), first state.
