Stahl worked at McCann Erickson and art-directed the John Hancock Insurance advertising campaign, contributing this one design himself. The campaign, which commissioned major artists and illustrators in an effort to use "high art" in print ads to catch people's attention, was a huge success and won numerous awards. The ads ran for over a decade and were included in historical exhibitions around the country including the famous traveling "Faces of Freedom" show from 1962.
