Additional Details

The Rev. Frederick L. Shuttlesworth (1922-2011) was a close colleague of Martin Luther King in the Alabama civil rights movement, and founded the Alabama Christian Movement for Human Rights. He remained active in the movement after relocating to Cincinnati in 1961. Offered here is a program published by his Revelation Baptist Church in Cincinnati, presenting the Alabama Christian Movement for Human Rights Choir and guest speaker Martin Luther King. It begins with an illustrated introduction from Rev. and Mrs. Shuttlesworth, in which they "take pride in the fact that America is long coming to grips with its conscience" and "rejoice to think of our association with Dr. King and other contemporaries who have persevered in founding a Non-Violent Movement." It also includes full-page illustrated biographies of the choir and of Dr. King, and numerous illustrated advertisements. At the center fold is the event's program, signed by King, Shuttlesworth, the organist Carlton Reese, and Jamie Collins--who we have been unable to identify although he signed twice.
