Additional Details

The larger volume is an oblong 4to, worn and crudely rebacked at an early date; the leaves are detached and some have been stapled together. It bears the signature of Moses Parks on pages 7 and 21, and includes melodies such as "Hail Columbia," "Steam Boat March," "Lafayette Welcome," "General Green's March," "Washington's Grand March," and "March in Memory of Washington." The volume was probably started not long after Lafayette's 1824 visit to America, and one tune near the end was noted as copied in 1835.
The other volume is an oblong 12mo with contemporary wrappers; it is in better condition but apparently missing its first 2 leaves. The later pages were originally used as an account book from 1830-35, and were later repurposed as a scrapbook, but the music leaves are clean. The tunes are mostly named after New England towns: ""Lynnfield," "Eastford," "New Canaan,", "West Simsbury," "North Salem," and "Wethersfield." One memorandum mentions Syracuse, NY, and another is dated at nearby Otisco, NY. It is signed on the front and rear wrappers by Apollos King of Otisco.
