Additional Details

This treaty revised an earlier 1828 treaty concerning the border between the United States and Mexico from the mouth of the Sabine River north to the Red River. The text begins "Primera Secretaria de Estado . . . Que á efecto de facilitar el cumplimienio del art. 3.° del Tratado de limites entre estos Estados y los Unidos del Norte América," followed by the text of the 3 April 1835 treaty in parallel Spanish and English (signed in type by the notoriously undiplomatic diplomat Anthony Butler), and the text of the certification signed in type by José Justo Corro as president and José Maria Ortiz on 18 June 1836. Between the initial treaty and the final ratification, the Texas Revolution broke out and was settled at the Battle of San Jacinto, making the United States-Mexican border a purely theoretical issue.
