(THOMAS COOK & SON -- WORLD TOUR)
Album entitled My Trip Around the World: S.S. Samaria, with over 260 photographs by Branson De Cou, including 70 images depicting scenery and local life in China and Hong Kong.
Beginning in New York, the tour traveled to Madeira then across Northern Africa to Egypt, and subsequently to Ceylon, journeying up through Asia, visiting India, Java, Manila, Singapore, Hong Kong, China, Korea, and Japan. Following this the group sailed East to Hawaii, down through the Panama Canal Zone to Cuba, and finally landed back on the East Coast of the United States. The majority of pictures in the album center on everyday life thorughout Asia. The accomplished photographer keenly captured the spirit of each location through sharply-rendered portraits and candid depictions of the local inhabitants partaking in routine activities. There are exceptional images documenting the natural beauty of these foreign lands, and architectural locations of historical import. Silver prints (262), the images measuring approximately 3 3/4x4 3/4 inches (9.5x12.1 cm.), with some 4 1/29x6 1/2 inches (11.4x16.5 cm.), mounted recto/verso to black pages, each with a detailed caption and inventory number in the negative. Oblong 4to, brown leatherette with a gilt-lettered title; De Cou's credit and address in gilt on the inside rear cover; twin-bolt binding. 1924
