(WORLD'S FAIR--UNDERWOOD & UNDERWOOD)
A vast archive of 275 documentary photographs associated with the 1939 New York World's Fair.
The archive is centered around 220 formal shots of the grounds and architecture, including a series of beautiful nighttime images, all of which are arranged in numbered folders. Also included are 58 smaller-format studies in a single envelope, some of these more candid, showing visitors to the fair walking amid the pavilions and sculptural elements. Finally, the archive includes a series of more than 35 stamped and notated envelopes containing proof prints and negatives. Silver prints, the images measuring 4 1/2x6 3/8 to 7 1/2x9 1/2 inches (11.4x16.2 to 19.1x24.1 cm.), and the reverse, the sheets slightly larger, the larger-format prints with Underwood & Underwood's credit in the negative and their hand stamp on verso; the smaller format with a small numeric hand stamp on verso; enclosed in labeled folders. 1939
