This rather finely drawn manuscript map of Jamaica Bay and the generally barren area is an official New York State Surveyor General's copy of an earlier survey laid down by William Stewart in 1797. Several noted landmarks include: a growing Jamaica Town, Whitehead Cornell's house, Duryea's Mill, Bett's Inn, Mr. Genet's house, Mrs. Martin's house, Hook Creek, the head of Flushing Creek, Rockaway Beach, and the County Road to New York.
