CONFIRMS APPOINTMENT OF DIRECTOR OF SECOND BANK OF U.S. ADAMS, JOHN QUINCY. Letter Signed, as Secretary of State, to Manuel Eyre, Jr., confirming his appointment as a Director of the Bank of the United States and informing him that his commission has been sent to the Bank president. 1/2 page, 4to, with integral blank; faint marginal discoloration from prior matting, minor chipping at right edge, short closed separation at two horizontal folds (not affecting text). "The President, by and with the advice and Consent of the Senate, having appointed you a Director of the Bank of the United States, I have the honour to inform you that your Commission is this day forwarded to the President of that Bank at Philadelphia."
According to the Act to Incorporate the Subscribers to the Bank of the United States, passed by Congress on April 10, 1816, the U.S. president may appoint five of the 25 directors of the Bank.
Manuel Eyre, Jr. (1777-1845) was a Philadelphia merchant and director of the Second Bank of the United States (first appointed in 1816) whose father, Manuel Eyre (1736-1805) was a shipbuilder and colonel in the Continental Army.
