ELIZABETH CATLETT (1915 - 2012)
Naima.

Cast bronze with brown patina and polychrome, mounted on a wooden base, 1998. 241×203x215 mm; 9 1/2×8×8 1/2 inches. Initialed on the rear edge.

Provenance: Stella Jones Gallery, New Orleans; private collection, Georgia.

Naima is a striking modern portrait, a bust of Naima Mora, one of Elizabeth Catlett's twin granddaughters, and one of her last works in bronze.

Naima Mora is the daughter of jazz vocalist and entrepreneur Theresa Mora and jazz percussionist Francisco Mora Catlett. Mora is a fashion model and is probably best known as the winner of cycle 4 of the television series America's Next Top Model.
