first edition of the first later medieval abridgment of the Synonyma of Isidore of Seville to appear in print. Originally written at the beginning of the 7th century, the Synonyma was a tract comprising a spiritual dialogue and moral instructions written in a rhythmic prose style characterized by the extensive use of synonyms and paraphrase, which became popular both as a rhetorical and a religious text. The unabridged work was first published circa 1470-71.
