MISTI (FERDINAND MIFLIEZ, 1865-1923) CYCLES MOTOCYCLES CLÉMENT. 96 x 34 1/2 inches. Moulot, Paris. Condition A-: unobtrusive vertical and horizontal folds. Two sheets. Like most of the poster artists of his generation Misti was basically a painter who switched to the nascent medium of lithography because the popular new outdoor advertisers were looking for talent. He ultimately created many posters for cycles, liqueurs and department stores. Here, in one of the most striking bicycle posters of the era, Misti shows a young cyclist at night, illuminated by a Japanese lantern emblazoned with an advertisement for Clement. The way Misti plays with the orange light cast by the lantern is ravishing and proves his incredible lithographic skill. This tall, elongated format is a jewel of design.
