REMBRANDT VAN RIJN
Pieter Haaring.

Etching, drypoint and burin, 1655. 198x148 mm; 7 3/4x6 inches, narrow margins. Biörklund's third state (of 5), with the landscape painting added on the wall behind the sitter; Usticke's third state (of 5); White and Boon's third state (of 5). Ex-collection Paul Davidsohn (Lugt 654, verso); Ferdinand of Portugal (Lugt 968, verso); and Hermann Weber (Lugt 1383, verso). A brilliant, early and richly-inked impression of this exceedingly scarce etching with all the details distinct and with no sign of wear, consistent with the earliest impressions of this subject.

We have found fewer than 5 other lifetime impressions like the current work at auction in the past 30 years. Bartsch 275; Biörklund 55-E; Hollstein (White and Boon) 275.
