REMBRANDT VAN RIJN
Self Portrait Drawing at a Window.

Etching and drypoint, 1648. 159x130 mm; 6 1/4x5 1/8 inches, narrow margins. Biörklund's fifth state (of 5); Usticke's fourth state (e) (of 8), with the delicate Watelet rework; White and Boon's fifth state (of 5). A superb, dark, well-inked impression, printed with great care, before the heavy Basan rework, with burr on Rembrandt's right hand and the edges of the sheets of paper below his hand and with traces of burr in the lower landscape through the window at the left, with little to no sign of wear in the dark, heavily cross-hatched background and with crisp, partially inky plate edges. Bartsch 22; Biörklund 48-A; Hollstein (White and Boon) 22.
