"Teruhiko Yumura was one of the leading artists in the 1970s movement of 'punk' mangas, which promoted lunacy and manic scribbles instead of artistic qualities. Yumura published his work under a variety of pseudonyms, including Terry Johnson and King Terry . . . [he is considered] the "godfather" of the heta-uma drawing style, which means in translation 'bad, but good' " (Lambiek.net). He "takes his inspiration from the comic-strip and purveys all the stereotypes of America of the Forties and Fifties, which he spoofs in the passing" (Weill p. 339). Weill p. 339.
