TERRY JOHNSON (TERUHITO YUMURA, 1944 - ) MARINPIC. 1983. 40 1/4x57 1/2 inches, 102x146 cm. Condition A-: abrasions in image. "Teruhiko Yumura was one of the leading artists in the 1970s movement of 'punk' mangas, which promoted lunacy and manic scribbles instead of artistic qualities. Yumura published his work under a variety of pseudonyms, including Terry Johnson and King Terry . . . [he is considered] the "godfather" of the heta-uma drawing style, which means in translation 'bad, but good' " (Lambiek.net). He "takes his inspiration from the comic-strip and purveys all the stereotypes of America of the Forties and Fifties, which he spoofs in the passing" (Weill p. 339). Weill p. 339.
