This scarce, early landscape, likely of Brooklyn rooftops, was painted while Williams was a student at the Brooklyn Museum School of Art. There, he studied under Ben Shahn, Gregorio Prestopino and Reuben Tam. After graduating in 1955, Williams won a John Hay Whitney Foundation fellowship to study and paint in Mexico.
