Buell a member of the Society. Countersigned by Secretary of the Society Henry Knox. Additionally signed by Charles L. When first organized at the end of the Revolution by Henry Knox, Jedidiah Huntington and Baron von Steuben, the Society of the Cincinnati restricted its membership to the officers of the Continental Army and their firstborn descendants. Membership requirements have changed only slightly over the years, and today the select members of the Society continue to keep alive the memory of the sacrifices made for American liberty. John Hutchinson Buell (1753-1813) enlisted for the Lexington Alarm in 1775, then served in the Continental Infantry in 1776, achieved the rank of major, and resigned from the army after his engagement at the Battle of Fallen Timbers in 1794.
