Additional Details

First edition, first issue of this impressive wall map of the United States engraved by J.H. Young, F. Dankworth, E. Yeager, & E.F. Woodward. Copyrighted in 1833, the present title of "A New Map of the United States" was published by Mitchell in 1834. Later in the same year, without any change to the cartography or design, it was altered to "Reference and Distance Map of the United States" and changed yet again to "Mitchell's Reference and Distance Map of the United States". Many subsequent editions with that title followed. A large vignette of an American eagle perched on a shell ornaments the title area; inset maps of the General United States, Florida, Maine, Boston, New York, Philadelphia, Albany, Baltimore and Washington, Charleston, Cincinnati, New Orleans, Niagara Falls and Rochester appear throughout. Ristow, pages 309-310.
