Drypoint printed in dark brownish black on cream laid paper, 1879-82. 235x152 mm; 9 1/4x6 1/8 inches, wide margins. A very good impression with warm plate tone.
This is the only pure drypoint in Manet's printed oeuvre and one of his last prints. For the subject, he returned to a painting from 1866, now in the Minneapolis Institute of Arts (he also made an etching based on this painting around 1866-67). Guérin 48; Harris 49.
