Etching on cream wove Japan paper, 1867. 88x178 mm; 3 1/2x7 inches, full margins. Fifth state (of 6), with the intermediate work on the left hand and before the addition of the tip of the thumb behind the right hand, before the first published edition in Zola's pamphlet. A superb, dark, early and richly-inked impression with strong contrasts and crisp plate edges.
