Additional Details

This newspaper's motto was "No Union with Slaveholders," and was published from 1845 to 1861. It was edited during this period by Oliver Johnson, a white Quaker abolitionist who also served as a conductor on the Underground Railroad. He had previously written for William Lloyd Garrison's Liberator.

Lucy Stone had been a regular columnist while a student at Oberlin College, and her byline can be found in the 27 April issue here. We are aware of no other extended runs of the Bugle at auction.

With--the Bugle's 7 June 1851 issue.
