Second edition, first state. The evidence presented to the House of Commons of the United Kingdom which shocked them into an awareness of the horrors of the slave trade.

Features the folding plate showing the terrible conditions on the slave ship Brooks, a variant of the iconic image which first appeared in a British pamphlet in 1789. This second edition of the "Abstract of Evidence" plate can be distinguished by the "To face page 36" in the upper left.

The other known copies of the second edition are dated 1792. This first-state variant bears a 1791 date, and was printed from the same setting of type. This second edition was issued without the map found in the first edition. Afro-Americana 35; Sabin 81745 (both showing the 1792 second edition).
