A large group of photographs pertaining to Artkraft Strauss. Including one album with 116 photographs and approximately 217 loose photographs in both color and black-and-white. The album, entitled "Commercial Signs," includes contact prints depicting various signage, billboards, storefronts, and awnings. Certain subjects are photographed in both daylight and at night highlighting the glow of the signage in the dark city streets. Silver prints, all approximately 4x5 inches (10.2x12.7 cm.), and the reverse, 87 are stapled, without ordered technique, to black pages recto/verso, and 29 are laid in. Oblong large 4to with a tie binding, with the handwritten title tape-mounted to black leatherette. The signage depicted in the loose prints covers an array of advertisements from Loew's movie theatres, various savings banks, and blank prospective billboards, to food and liquor, car manufacturers, and Broadway shows. There are also photographs documenting the design, construction, and installation of billboards and signs including early use of color photographs. Silver (141), chromogenic (49), and Polaroids (27), ranging in size from 3 1/2x3 1/2 to 17 1/2x13 5/8 inches (8.9x8.9 to 44.5x34.6 cm.), some with annotations and handstamps on recto and verso. 1948-80s
