GAHAN WILSON. Talon Zippers. Original art for the 1964 advertising campaign. Watercolor, ink, and wash, with glaze on paper. 310x250mm; 12 1/4x9 3/4 inches, image, mounted to 14x11-inch paper which is mounted to board. Signed in lower left image.
The Talon ad ran in The New York Times Magazine and Women's Wear Daily. As recollected by the owner, a former Delehanty, Kurnit and Geller art director, Wilson submitted the work to him yet felt that something was still missing. He then pulled from his pocket a cut-out of the belly-up frozen bird and placed it to the side of the bus stop whereupon they both declared it perfect.
