Rare group of 47 photographs of Colonial Eritrea and Sudan by the Italian photographer Luigi Naretti, with many ethnographic studies and pictures of village life, wonderful studio portraits, ritual scenes and prayer at Ramadan, and views of Italian workers and military personnel; with a few smaller sheets depicting family members, nude models, and exotic or farm animals. Printing-out paper and sepia-toned silver prints, 9x11 inches (23x28 cm.) and smaller, most with Naretti's caption, credit, and inventory number in the plate. 1890-1905

with--Group of more than 65 postcards and vernacular photographs of Eritrea, with a preponderance depicting the Colonial presence, including horse shows and gaming events, military displays and skirmishes; with others showing native life and the colony's topography. Silver prints, 4 1/2x6 1/2 inches ( 11.5x16.5 cm.), several with notations or captions in the negative on verso. 1905-1930.
