(AFRICAN SAFARI)
A personal album from a Mrs. Sturges' trip to the Congo and Uganda with approximately 140 images.

The album traces a trip starting in Stanleyville (now Kisangani, Democratic Republic of the Congo), through various "native camps," to Bunia, Kasenyi (in Uganda), Irumu, Mutwanga, Butembo, Ruindi, Lake Kivu, and Costermansville (Bukavu). The photographs are a mix of personal and sourced images, including some photomechanical postcards, and include shots of big animals, various indigenous people, and landscapes. Some of the snapshots appear to include Mrs. Sturges herself, interacting with people living in camps. Some pages with scrapbooked elements, including the itinerary and maps, as well as a certificate for flying over the Equator at the rear. Silver prints (approx. 100) and photomechical reproductions (approx. 40), the images measuring 3 1/2 inches square to 7 1/2x9 1/2 inches (8.9 to 19.1x24.1 cm.), and the reverse, mounted recto/verso behind plastic sleeves, a few with short typed captions. Large folio, red leatherette with an interior spiral binding. 1950
