Additional Details

Henry Perrine, to whom the land is granted, began introducing tropical plants into Florida in the late 1820s from Cuba and Mexico. Intending to cultivate agave, pineapples, yucca and other plants, the Second Seminole War prevented him from beginning the project and he was killed in 1840 in an Indian raid.<
