Additional Details

A visual chronicle of Alaskan salmon fishing conditions in the 1890s, the same period when Alaska was a hotbed of gold-mining fever. The album was compiled for Jefferson F. Moser who was the commanding officer aboard the Albatross, a U. S. Fishing commission vessel used to conduct scientific expeditions in the Northwest as well as the Philippines and the Carribean. Moser's 1889 report "Salmon and Salmon Fisheries of Alaska" apparently included photographic illustrations, some of which may be included here.
