Additional Details

Almost half of the photographs in this album (24 of them) are captioned views taken during the Klondike gold rush by Frank La Roche (1853-1936) of Seattle. They were taken at various points along the Alaska panhandle, including Muir Glacier, Sitka, Skagway, Fort Wrangell, Juneau, Kasaan, and Yakutat Bay, plus one in nearby British Columbia. They include shots of totems, town views, glaciers, a group of Inuit merchants, the "Interior of an Indian House" (illustrated), and a rangy-looking group of prospective miners. Also included are:

15 uncaptioned photographs by George Fiske (1835-1918) of Yosemite National Park in California.

3 captioned Hawaiian views by J.A. Gonsalves, including a hotel, the Japanese village at Wainaku, and Moku Olu or Coconut Island in Hilo Bay.

One San Francisco street view by Taber, and 6 views by unidentified photographers of Hawaii and elsewhere. Complete list available upon request.
