Additional Details

Railroad mogul Edward Harriman funded and led this 1899 scientific expedition along the Alaskan coast, accompanied by a boatload of notable scientists, authors, and artists. These first two volumes are the most important and desirable for their fine photogravure plates, including 45 after photographs by Edward S. Curtis. Volume I ("Narrative, Glaciers, Natives") was written by John Burroughs, John Muir, and George Bird Grinnell. Volume II ("History, Geography, Resources") was by William H. Dall and others.
