Smith, containing over 40 items Signed, or Signed and Inscribed, by two U.S. presidents, relatives, and friends, mostly quotations of works by others or longish sentiments, including an original Autograph Poem Signed by John Quincy Adams. Written on recto and verso, usually one to a page, many spanning multiple pages. 4to, 1/4 cloth, worn; hinges cracked, few loose gatherings, scattered short closed tears at edges, scattered faint offsetting, etching of John Adams pasted to front free endpaper, Abby S. Autograph Poem Signed and Inscribed, "To my dear Niece / Abby S. Adams," untitled, four stanzas beginning: "To fill thy page beloved Maid . . . ." 1 page; on verso is written a poem in another hand. Quincy, 19 September 1823. Published with a few changed lines in the New York Mirror, January 7, 1837. Only two other manuscript examples located, both in the Adams Family Papers at the Massachusetts Historical Society Louisa Catherine Johnson Adams. Autograph Poem Signed, "Louisa C. Adams," entitled "Lines on an unfortunate female," 4 stanzas. 1 1/2 pages, written on recto and verso of a leaf. Np, nd George Washington Adams.
