According to later editions of the book, the First Edition was issued in April 1953, making this copy with a March 1953 inscription a pre-publication issue. Prominent Baptist Minister Harry Emerson Fosdick, to whom this copy is inscribed, issued one of the first positive reviews of The Big Book and is credited in part with the group's early development.
