(ALGERIA)
An album entitled Algerie, with 50 professional photographs, several by the Leroux studio.
The photographs include compelling studio and "in situ" studies of indigenous peoples at work (including demure scenes of concubines), street scenes depicting the bustle of everyday life as well as some with military figures, and views of mosques, cathedrals, oases, caravans, and local vegetation; some credited to Algiers photographer Alexandre Leroux. Albumen prints, the images measuring 7 1/2x10 inches (19.1x25.4 cm.), and the reverse, mounted recto/verso, many with a numeric inventory number and caption, in French, and a few with Leroux's credit, in the negative. Oblong folio, gilt-lettered cloth, soiled, backstrip mostly detached. Circa 1885
