Additional Details

The "Independence" was a twin-screw vessel built at the Quincy, Mass. yards of Bethlehem Steel. She was launched in June 1950 and made her maiden voyage in February 1951. Her construction cost a record $25,000,000. She was renovated in 1959. Her sister ship was the "Constitution."
