Andrew Jackson Blackbird (circa 1810-1900) was an Odawa with some formal education. This pamphlet is an interesting mix of oral history and autobiography, including on page 103 "the twenty-one precepts or moral commandments of the Ottawa and Chippewa Indians, by which they were governed in their primitive state," contrasted with the Ten Commandments.
