Additional Details

The 40-volume photographic masterpiece by Edward Curtis, The North American Indian, was initially funded by the financier J.P. Morgan in 1906. The final volume was not published until 1930. In 1935, Morgan's estate sold the remaining sets and plates to Boston bookseller Charles E. Lauriat. Lauriat adapted the original 1907 prospectus to produce this promotional packet, advertising 19 discounted bound complete sets of the Curtis work. Contains:

2 photogravures of Curtis photographs: "The Oath, Apsaroke" and "Navajo Medicine Man" on vellum paper, each 12 x 9 inches.

Tri-fold reprint of the original 1907 prospectus. 6 pages (12 1/4 x 9 1/4 inches) on one folding sheet. Features a 1906 foreword by President Theodore Roosevelt, a longer introduction by Curtis, a subscription form, and additional text added in red, announcing the availability of 19 remainder sets at a discounted price.

Original Lauriat flat mailing envelope, illustrated with a Curtis image. 9 1/2 x 12 1/2 inches, unused.
