This photograph was taken at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, Texas, where Geronimo and other Apache prisoners of war were detained for about six weeks after their capture in late 1886, before being transported to Florida. We trace no other Sturdevant Geronimo portraits at auction, and only one other period print of this image, held by the United States Army and reproduced on Wikimedia.
