Additional Details

The Indian Rights Association was an influential private group which helped protect American Indians from some of the more repressive efforts of the Office of Indian Affairs, though their strong emphasis on "civilizing" the Indians looks less appealing in hindsight. Includes: Armstrong. Report of a Trip . . . to Some Indian Reservations of the Southwest. 1884 Frazer. The Apaches of the White Mountain Reservation, Arizona. 1885 Welsh. Report of a Visit to the Great Sioux Reserve, Dakota. 1883 Welsh. Report of a Visit to the Navajo, Pueblo, and Hualapais Indians of New Mexico and Arizona. 1885 The Honorable Commissioner of Indian Affairs and the Census at Pine Ridge Indian Agency, Dakota. 1886 The first four annual reports of the Executive Committee, 1884-87 and an incomplete run of 30 numbered pamphlets from the "second series," 1893-1925.
