A memoir describing the author's acceptance into the Creek tribe in present-day Alabama, his rapid ascent to head chief under the patronage of Alexander McGillivray, and his numerous victories over the Spanish and Americans until he returned home for the French Revolution. The veracity of Milfort's story has been debated, but Field at least gives "a fair amount of credence to his narrative." "One of the most interesting and curious books of French travel in America in the eighteenth century"--Monaghan, French Travellers 1073. Only two others have been traced at auction since 1966: the Bauer-Streeter and the Siebert copies.
