(AMERICAN INDIANS.) Petition of 8 Caughnawaga chiefs concerning their unsettled land claims in Vermont. Manuscript letter to Major William Goodrich of the Vermont militia, bearing the secretarial signatures of eight chiefs. In broken English, the chiefs (Anasiio Good Strime, Onastetegen, et al.) remind the Vermont government: "You remember that Governor Tichenor told os in your hous and prisonts that he head chosed Mr. John Tharp to be agent to communicate from you to os aboute ouer lands and that he wold be hear at the vilige in three weeks or a month at the fourdest to hear whort wee had to sea about ouer lands." This emissary had never arrived, so they sent this note as a gentle reminder. with--the transmittal letter from Major Goodrich to Governor Isaac Tichenor, Vergennes, VT, 17 April 1799.
