Curtis selected another image from this session as plate 147 in Volume IV of his The North American Indian, titled "Apsaroke War Group." As Curtis explained, "The warrior at the right holds the curved staff of one of the tribal military organizations, which, at the crisis of a fight, was planted in the ground as a standard behind which the bearer was pledged not to retreat."
