Additional Details

On the far right, holding the longer rifle, is the Chiricahua Apache leader Goyathlay, better known by his Mexican nickname Geronimo. The Smithsonian identifies his comrades as his brother-in-law Yahnozha; son Chappo; and second cousin Fun. The photograph was taken in the Sierra Madre Mountains during negotiations with General Crook for his surrender. You may recognize the image from the popular T-shirts captioned 'Homeland Security: Fighting Terrorism Since 1492,' but this is an original print.
