Additional Details

The American photographer Nicholas Brown (born circa 1830) established a studio in Chihuahua in 1867, left it in the care of his son William, and then returned in 1870. He was also active in St. Louis, New Mexico, and Texas through 1873. Another copy of this image held by the British Museum identifies these men as "six Taos Pueblos men" and a third copy on Pinterest is captioned "Taos delegation." Brown presumably shot this image in New Mexico and sold it in Chihuahua.
