Additional Details

This uncaptioned and unidentified photograph is consigned from an old Nebraska family. It is thought to possibly show Thomas Henry Tibbles (1840-1928) with a group of Poncas. Tibbles was a Nebraskan journalist and advocate for Indian rights, best known for bringing the case of Standing Bear before the United States District Court in 1879, resulting in a landmark ruling that "an Indian is a person."
