Additional Details

The Tonkawa of Oklahoma and Texas fought alongside the Texan revolutionaries and sided with the Confederacy during the Civil War; they were victims of a notorious attack in 1862 by pro-Union tribes. This was one of the images selected by the photographer for "Rinehart's Indians," where he noted "One of the few survivors of the Massacre at Tonkawa Creek."
